One of my favorite songs I've ever written, but also the only recording on the album I'm still disappointed with. I'd love to rerecord it some day. It kind of works: I wanted it to sound scary and it does. But you can't understand a word. This is what you get when you say to yourself: "What if Deeper Into Movies AND His Name is Alive?"
Scary as the music is, there's nothing sinister going on in the lyrics. Having a crush is rough.
lyrics
Beat My Arms
One
Then Two
Songs
I waited for you
Waited for you
Doors open, the light, and then you
Your people all around you
That’s the way that I think of you
Oh, for an antidote
I was a moth soon as I met you
I beat my arms around you
Just to catch fire from you
Oh, for an antidote
Bird-men circle up above
Dip their ladles down inside me
Skim the brimming light off of me
Fast as it overflows
Doors open, the light, and then you
I want to be the air I want to
Hover in your mouth I want to
Flutter with every note
Bird wings beat the air above me
In feathers falling all around me
I don’t think the earth can hold me
Oh, for an antidote
Bird-men circle up above me
Shake their ancient heads and hurry
To cut the tautened cords inside me
To offer an antidote
I was a moth soon as I met you
I beat my little arms around you
Just to close them once around you
Oh, for an antidote
Someone close spoke when I met you
I held my breath and waited for you
Saved enough to speak them for you
To offer an antidote
